BREWERY REDEVELOPMENT, HENLEY-ON-THAMES
THE OLD HENLEY BREWERY LIMITED
Brewing ceased at Brakspear’s Henley Brewery in 2002. A prime site for developers, it was snapped up quickly, along with the former White Hart Hotel and a number of other adjoining buildings.
The developers commissioned Compton Lacey to prepare an overall strategy for the site, which was eventually worked up sufficiently for us to obtain a detailed planning permission. This successful outcome was achieved despite the initial reluctance of the planners to lose such a large industrial site and objections from local residents.
The actual construction work was phased, breaking down essentially into three parts: the conversion of the buildings facing Thames Side into a mixed use development; the creation of a new Hotel du Vin in the old brewery offices, and a development of new apartments and live-work units accessed from New Street.
