GOLF CLUB REDEVELOPMENT - LONDON
ROYAL WIMBLEDON GOLF CLUB

Royal Wimbledon Golf Club has been in existence for more than 125 years, and for much of that time has occupied the clubhouse on Camp Road. Over the years this building has been extended and altered many times. The result is that today the clubhouse is quite convoluted in its planning, particularly behind the scenes and the services and structure which underpin its operation have not been laid out in any particularly strategic way. In addition, some facilities, for example the men's changing, are starting to look somewhat threadbare and changes in use patterns, and new functions cannot not easily be accommodated.

Compton Lacey were asked to undertake a strategic review of the whole clubhouse, giving particular consideration to the provision of better men's changing, increasing use of the old dining room, reordering and enhancing the back of house facilities, a space for bridge playing and other minor improvements. We concluded at an early stage that the problem for the club lay largely in the inconvenient and illogical circulation routes in and around the building, in particular that the kitchen, which occupies the middle of the ground floor, effectively prevented easy progress from the car park to the men's changing, bar and dining room. We also felt that a 'proper' entrance, linked to the car park, to welcome members and visitors alike, was essential.

The project is currently on site.
